Harrogate Advertiser - 4th February 1882
Knaresborough Petty Sessions
George Dawson, builder, Harrogate, charged Thomas Pearson with absenting himself from complainant's employ as an apprentice, and asked that he might be required to fulfil his contract.
Complainant stated the defendant was an apprentice of his, and produced the indenture which showed that the contract would become void on the 9th August 1882. the defendant left his service on the 9th August last, stating he was of age. Since then complainant had obtained the defendant's birth certificate, which showed he was born on the 9th August, 1861, therefore he would not be of age until August in the present year. He did not wish to press for any penalties, but that the defendant be ordered to return to his work.
Defendant was ordered to complete his apprenticeship, and pay 8s 6d costs.
