I'm not a man who's hard to please,
And simple tastes I've got,
A little pleasure brings me ease,
I never want a lot;
But still I'm fond of what I like
And say, with emphasis,
That when a treat I wish to strike
My beau ideal is this–
Refrain.
I like to go to Harrogate
And breathe the Yorkshire air,
Its properties are rare,
It grips you everywhere,
I like the Gardens-like the Stray,
Any old night, any old day,
I like the trees, I like the shrubs,
Like the Hotels, like the Clubs,
The country round, I like all parts,
Like the ladies, bless their hearts,
Like the men, they're all good sorts,
Very few totes, all good sports,
And when I want to stay up late
I like to go to Harrogate.
The East Coast isn't in my line,
One gets a lot of fogs,
Southend is not a pal of mine,
I hate the Isle of Dogs
I seldom visit Barking Creek,
I don't like it a bit,
When I want somewhere, so to speak,
That's absolutely " It "–
Refrain.
I like to go to Harrogate
And leave my humble hearth,
To lose a stone or two of weight
Inside a Turkish Bath :
I like the waters, they're all right,
Any old day, any old night,
I like the frocks the ladies wear,
Rather short, but I don't care,
I like the kids, they're simply joys,
Lovely girls and splendid boys,
I like the sunshine that you get,
I like the rain, it's nice and wet.
Every place I like to touch,
Like the Pump Room very much,
I like the splendid sulphur well,
Cold as ice or hot as (erased by Censor).
These are reasons why I state
When I want somewhere up–to–date,
Absolutely good–first rate,
I make my mind up–never wait,
Get there early–stay there late,
I love to go to Harrogate.
