                                           The Harrogate Stray

It's hardly a Common, it's hardly a Park,
The spot someone christened "The Stray."
Newcomers, each day, on its beauty remark,
As they pause to admire, on their way.

Its soft undulations, its splendour of green,
Are pleasures to touch and to sight;
And its fine rural features, enriching the scene,
Are an ever recurring delight.

Fine buildings around it of tasteful design
Just give to the picture a frame,
It's a well–loved and oft seen companion of mine,
This place with the curious name.

Secured to the people by law of the Land
Is this charming and health–giving place,
And long may it last in its Township so grand,
And flourish in beauty and grace.
