This series of letters are by William Hammond Breare
who was the Editor of the Harrogate Herald. Right from the start of
the Great War he wrote a weekly letter to the serving soldiers.
These contain general chit-chat as to events in Harrogate and
information about all the soldiers who paid him a visit in his
office above the main offices of the Harrogate Herald in Montpellier
Parade.
As a small diversion I include what is in
effect a small potted history of the two Harrogate papers - The
Harrogate Advertiser and the Harrogate Herald as it shows how the
two papers were linked by the Ackrill and Breare families. They were
a powerful force in the history of the town. < Click
