Private A L Ambler

Harrogate Herald - 5th September 1917

Letters

Private A L Ambler, acknowledging the receipt of the Herald, says :

I must say it passes an interesting hour or two reading of the dear old town, and the photo page recalls old faces and memories of the long past; still it is hard to read of so many local lads going under, and my deepest sympathies rests with the parents and relatives. I am thankful to say I remain in the best of health. I had the pleasure of meeting an old Borough lad a week or two ago named C Holmes. He was an inmate of the convalescent camp, having been gassed some while back. He was improving as well as could be expected. I think this is his second dose of gas. I am of the opinion that this war is about on the last lap, what say you? If I am not asking too much, would you kindly send me a wristlet watch. I had the misfortune to break mine , and had it repaired twice when near a town, but still it is of no use.
