Sergeant H Bagenal

 
 

Harrogate Herald - 5th September 1917

Sergeant H Bagenal, RAMC, son of Mr P H Bagenal, Local Government Board Officer, has received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry on the field of battle at Bernafay Wood, on the Somme, in July, 1916. He had been in charge of stretcher-bearers for 48 hours under shell fire, and had carried a message under barrage to another dressing station. The gallant sergeant had been severely wounded, and the medal was presented to him by General Mackenzie at Croxley Green VAD Hospital.
