Lieutenant W Barraclough

Harrogate Herald - 10th October 1917

Roll of Honour

Lieutenant W Barraclough, Enniskillen Dragoons, attached 11th West Yorks, son of the late Thomas Barraclough, of One Ash, Harrogate, ship owner of West Hartlepool, and of Mrs Barraclough, Kent Road, Harrogate, has been wounded in France. He has three brothers in the Army - Major Barraclough being in France, and Captain H Barraclough is in Mesopotamia.

Harrogate Herald – 15th January 1919

Writing from Mesopotamia, W B says :

I write to acknowledge receipt of the parcel of books and socks, and return many thanks for your kindness in sending them. The socks are very welcome, as the dry season is over, and we can expect bad weather any time. The boots, such as are issued to us, out here do not keep rain out very well, but so long as we have another dry pair or two, wet socks do not trouble us much. I have written to Councillor Fleming thanking him for his gift, and would you oblige me by thanking Miss Dineley for her gift through the medium of your paper.

[ W B is either Private W J Baines or Lieutenant W Barraclough – I favour the latter due to his writing style ]
