Private B B Binns

Harrogate Herald - 28th November 1917

Roll of Honour

Gunner C Binns, second son of Mr & Mrs E Binns, 24 Ashfield Terrace, Harrogate, was killed in action on October 14th. Corporal Charles Eden wrote : "Dear Mrs Binns, It is with great regret that I have to inform you that your son Charles was killed two days ago. As corporal in charge of the gun detachment to which he was attached, I have known your son since he joined the battery last January, and he was extremely popular and well liked, owing to his cheerful disposition and his unfailing willingness. On the day of his death he was one of a party sent out to bring back a gun limber. On the return journey several German aeroplanes were bombing the roads, and one bomb fell right by them, death being instantaneous, and Charlie was saved any suffering. Kindly accept my deepest sympathy and that of the remainder of the sub-section in your bereavement, which has robbed you of a son and us of a good comrade. May the knowledge that he was every inch a soldier and laid down his life for the honour and preservation of his country console you in the sorrow which the announcement of his death must have caused you". Private B B Binns, RAMC, his eldest brother, is a clerk at the 4th London General Hospital.
