Harrogate Herald - 21st July 1915

No fewer than four Harrogate lads have fallen in action this week : Lance Corporal Arnold [Ellis] Day; Lance Corporal Kelley [Probably Fred Kelly], 5th West Yorks; Private W A Haley, 5th West Yorks; Private J [John] Brown, 1/5th West Yorks. Their portraits appear on our picture page.

Private W A Haley was killed in action on the 12th July. Before enlisting last September in the 5th West Yorkshires, he was assistant to Mr A O Cross, dentist, of Station Parade, and he was a popular member of the YMCA. He was the only son of Mr I Haley, of Grafton, York, and Mrs Haley, of Knaresborough Road, Harrogate.
