Captain John Hamilton

Harrogate Herald - 8th January 1919

W H Breare letter

I had a visit from my old friend, Sergeant Fred Allen, on Monday, who was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Lieutenant Hamilton, Argyle and Sutherland Regiment, who married Miss Alix Allen, one of the twins. Likewise another old friend looked in, Corporal "Billy" Bell, son of Mr Smith Bell.

Harrogate Advertiser-10.29.1982

Captain John Hamilton died a hero. He gave his life serving his country, and for saving the life of a comrade received the Military Cross.

This son of Harrogate will be remembered along with the other Servicemen who died in the Falklands war.

As we approach the time of the year when poppies act as buttonhole reminders of all those servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives we recall the story of two Yorkshire schoolmates who achieved the highest award of all, the Victoria Cross.
