Harrogate Herald - 21st March 1917

Roll of Honour

Mrs Maker, Briggate, Knaresborough, has received the sad news of her husband, Private William Charles Maker (Army Service Corps Remount Section), having been killed on February 27th. Private Maker, who was formerly in the Lincolnshire Fusiliers, was transferred to the ASC nearly two years ago. Before the war he was head groom to General Hammersley, who commanded the famous 11th Division with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces, and subsequently joined up with the General with whom he had been for four years. Private Maker went through the Gallipoli campaign, and was afterwards in Egypt and Salonica.
