Private William McCombie, whose photograph appears in this issue, was at the time of enlisting in the Gordon Highlanders two months ago, one of the gardeners at Grantley Hall, Ripon, the place of Lady Jane Furness. He was the recipient of a handsome present from her ladyship on joining the Colours. Formerly he was a gardener at Ribston Hall, near Knaresborough, the residence of Major Dent, and is well known in the village of Ribston. Private McCombie is in training with the Gordons at Aberdeen.
