Claro Times  -  3rd April 1915

Lieutenant A L P Griffith, of the Royal Field Artillery, had the honour of being received by the King, when His Majesty invested him with the Insignia of the Order of the Distinguished Service Order. Lieutenant Griffith is the well-known Yorkshire and Harrogate Rugby Union forward. He and Lieutenant H A McIlmaine, the Yorkshire Rugby captain, were recently mentioned in despatches by Field-Marshal Sir John French. Lieutenant Griffith also played football for the North of England and for the Army and the Blackheath Club, and on one occasion he took part in a Welsh Rugby Union International trial match, in which he scored two brilliant tries.
