Harrogate Herald - 8th January 1919

W H Breare letter

I should be glad if any comrades could give me definite news of Corporal Ernest Morrell, 1/8th Cameronians, who was reported killed on the 16th October at a place called Halluin, near Menin, on the borders of France and Belgium. He was repeatedly rejected for the Army and then passed A1 by a Scottish Medical Board, finally going into the firing line without any previous experience. He was recommended for a commission, and was on the eve of returning home for it when he was reported killed. He worked before the war for Mr Benn, Willaston, and lived in Harrogate all his life. If anyone who was in his regiment during the above engagement would communicate with Mrs Morrell, Pannal Ash, Harrogate, giving any details, she would be grateful.
