James Oddy

Harrogate Herald - 19th September 1917

Roll of Honour

Mr & Mrs John Oddy, of High Street, Spofforth, have received news from a hospital in France that their second son, James Oddy, has been somewhat seriously wounded in the left shoulder. This happened on Friday, the 7th September. The Matron wrote that the journey from the Front to the hospital had been very trying for him. "Jim" went out with the Cycling Corps of the Northumberland Fusiliers, but was transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers. A further letter states that he is progressing favourably. He was an enthusiastic member of the Spofforth football team, and previous to joining up was in the employ of the North-Eastern Railway Company. He is a grandson of Mrs Oddy, of the Castle Inn, and of Mrs Nicholson, of the Prince of Wales, Spofforth, and is 19 years of age.
