Private Joe Paley

 
 

Harrogate Herald - 15th December 1915

In our picture page today are portraits of brothers of two or three Harrogate families. These include Private Joe Paley, who is a bomb thrower with the 5th Battalion West Riding Regiment, and has been on active service eight months; Private Donald Paley, of the 64th Company, Army Ordnance Corps, who is training at Salisbury Plain. They are the sons of Mr and Mrs Paley, 21 St Mary's Avenue [Mrs J Paley, Beverley Dene, 21 St Mary's Avenue]. Another family comprise Sapper William Conning of the New Zealand Field Engineers, who is in Egypt; Seaman James Conning, of HMS Thunderer; Private F Conning, of the 3/5th West Yorks, in training at Clipstone Park; and another son is making munitions. They are the sons of Mrs Conning, 26 Denmark Street. [William Conning, 26 Denmark Street]

Roll of Honour

Private Joe Paley, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, son of Mr & Mrs C Paley, late of St Mary's Avenue, Harrogate, has been wounded in the leg a second time, and is in hospital in Norwich.
