Harrogate Herald - 13th September 1916

Private Victor ("Dick") Pickard, West Yorks, the younger son of Mrs J Pickard, Wedderburn Road, Woodlands, was killed in action in France on Sunday morning, the 3rd inst. Enlisting in November, 1914, he received his early training in Harrogate and went to the Front from Thoresby Camp in June, 1915. He met his death a week before his twentieth birthday. His Company Officer, in a letter of condolence to Mrs Pickard, said "his loss is deeply regretted by the whole of the officers and men, who wish me to convey to you their deepest sympathy in your loss".
