Sapper Rex

Harrogate Herald - 29th January 1919

W H Breare letter

You will remember that last week I told you about sending a car to Leeds for some stranded boys. Sapper Rex, RE, of Oatlands Mount, was one. He was on his way home to see his dying father, and had the satisfaction of seeing him before he passed away.

"Baggy" Fawcett and Leyland, of New Park, were two others of the party. They had a short delay on Harewood Bank owing to something going wrong with the car, but soon started again. Mr H O Shutt passed them here on his way to fetch his son. Rex is stationed in Ireland, and has not been to France. The Harrogate Carriage Company ran the boys home from Leeds, and only charged 27s. the usual Leeds fare is 2.
