Mr and Mrs B Swires, of 42 Madalen's Road, Ripon, have received a communication from an Army chaplain stating that there eldest son, Private William Swires (20), of the West Yorkshire Regt, was instantaneously killed in action. Deceased, who was a fitter at the British Ironworks, Ripon, joined the Army on the 10th May last year, and after completing his training went on active service on the 4th September. He was educated at the Ripon Cathedral Boys' School.
