Gunner Ernest Wrather

Harrogate Herald - 25th September 1918

Roll of Honour

Mrs M Wrather, of New Park, Harrogate, has received a letter from Mr H J Wiles informing her that her son, Lance Corporal L Wrather, Australian Imperial Force, died of wounds on September 4th during an advance. The writer express extreme regret and adds : "It was only a few days previous that he did excellent work in another attack. We all Miss him very much. He was lively at all times, and helped to keep the men in good spirits. In the Company he was one of the mainstays in the football team. I can assure you he died a soldier's death, doing his duty, and is mourned by all his comrades, with whom he was so popular. We all offer our deepest sympathy in your bereavement". Mrs eldest son, Joseph Wrather, has been missing since September 26th, 1916, and her youngest, Ernest Wrather, was killed in action.
