Private J C Armstrong writes :
Many thanks for your paper, which I thankfully received all
right, but I hope you will excuse me for not writing before now, as
we have had a long spell in the trenches this Xmas. I have not been
able to write until now. I think we have been rather unlucky, as we
were in the trenches both for Xmas and New Year, so you will see
that we have not had such a pleasant time. We had a few tunes,
though, I am sorry to say, they were not Christmas songs. They were
played by shells from both sides.
