During 2005 it is my intention to
slowly upload my WW1 database. Initially I will be uploading
newspaper snippets for individual soldiers (starting at Y !) and
where I have extracted information from the Commonwealth War Graves
site (CWGC) and the Soldiers Died in Great War CD (SDGW) this will
also be included.
Sometimes it has been quite difficult
to establish the exact soldier that is being written about, or
spoken of in letters; hence the somewhat vagueness of some entries.
I would appreciate any assistance on clarification of individuals
that appear here.
I hope that my abbreviations are
self-explanatory. If you are in doubt then please ask.
You will see reference to "W H
Breare letter". Mr Breare was the editor of the Harrogate
Herald and each week he wrote a long letter "To Our Boys On
Service", giving all the local chit-chat and information on
Harrogate soldiers. I have extracted individual references and
posted then to the appropriate name. At a latter date I will start
uploading the complete letters; they contain fascinating glimpses as
to life in Harrogate during the Great War.
Many of the names I will be uploading
are not Harrogate men. Harrogate had 12 (at least) military
hospitals/recuperation centers at that time, and soldiers from all
over the UK and Commonwealth were admitted.
I would appreciate your feedback (no
matter how small) with ANY additional
information on any of the soldiers mentioned.
Also - If you are using this material
I would appreciate acknowledgement of source.
