Harrogate Herald - 29th December 1915
The committee of Knaresborough ladies who organised
a Xmas gift fund for sending parcels to local soldiers and sailors
with the expeditionary forces and on the high seas have been deeply
gratified and richly rewarded with a shoal of appreciative letters
received by Miss J M Alexander (hon. secretary) from the boys on
service for King and country. We have pleasure in inserting the
first batch, and others will be given in subsequent issues :
Dear Madam, I now take the opportunity of thanking you most
heartily for the Xmas parcel you sent me and which I received in
good condition on the 15th December. I am sure it was very
acceptable, and it reminds me of the dear friends at Knaresborough,
and I think it must have been hard work for you and those who have
helped you in getting together such an acceptable parcel for each
Knaresborough soldier on active service. I know there is a good
number of Knaresborough men out here in France doing their duty for
King and country. Well, I hope you will thank the kind friends of
Knaresborough for sending me the Xmas parcel, also wishing you all a
happy Xmas and a bright and prosperous New Year. I remain, yours
truly, Sapper A H Blades.
