Harrogate Herald – 2nd January 1917
W H Breare letter
To continue with Starbeck, Private Bootland, RWK, son of
Mr A Bootland, Regent Place, Starbeck, has likewise been to see me.
He left the front on Christmas Day. Has been two years three months
in the Army without being sick or wounded. He told me that T B
Spackman, of Harrogate, is at Divisional Headquarters, and the only
man near him. Driver Coates used to be in the division, but he has
lost sight of him. Bootland used to be at the station refreshment
room, then he went to work at Hartlepool at the Grand Hotel, from
whence he enlisted.
