Harrogate Herald - 7th April 1915
W S Bruce, writing from the Front, says :
Dear Mr Breare, Just a few lines to thank you for
sending me the Harrogate Herald. It is quite a treat to read the
news of the old town, and very interesting too. We always do our
best to squeeze in a few minutes to have a look through your paper.
We had the Bishop of London at our camp last Tuesday. Sorry to say I
didn't see him, as I was with half of our lads at the trenches. I
suppose he cheered our chaps up a lot. I had the pleasure of running
across an old school chums of mine last week, to wit, Percy Calvert.
I can tell you we have had a little jubilee on our own to celebrate
the event. It is really surprising whom one meets out here. Have
also met Beer and Stevenson and several more Harrogate chaps. Well,
Mr Breare, we are all cheerful and happy and looking pictures of
health. I think the bright weather has a lot to do with it. We are
now back at our base getting ready for another move. Hope this finds
you as well as it leaves me. Thanking you once again,
Yours sincerely, W S Bruce
PS. I am afraid I shall not be able to get boating
at Knaresborough this Easter.
