Harrogate Herald - 29th December 1915
Driver A S Brunt says :
Well, Mr Breare, you always write us a nice, cheery letter each
week, and it interests boys that have never seen Harrogate, for they
all want to see it in turn. Of course, I pass it on to them. I am
pleased to say that I am in the very best of health, and I hope that
you and all the boys on active service are the same. We have had
some lively times since I wrote to you last; the Bosche were sending
us a Xmas box before the time, and they were dropping around the
hospital. One shell dropped in the garden and one at the gate, so we
had a lively time for about four hours, but we didn't mind as long
as they didn't hit the hospital. Our guns sent some back with
interest, I can assure you. I am expecting leave in the New Year,
and I will give you a call and thank you personally for your
kindness. I wish you and all the boys (soldiers and sailors) of
Harrogate, and all the kind people who help to make us happy, a
merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year. Again thanking
you for your kindness.
