Harrogate Herald - 8th December 1915
Mrs Carr, of Albert Place, Starbeck, received information
from the War Office that her son, Private W H Carr, has been
wounded in action at the Dardanelles and taken to a hospital at
Malta. It is a gunshot wound below the knee.
Private Carr writes in cheery style about the injury, and
in a letter to his mother says :
"They cut a little hole in my leg, in which I could just
about get my hands. That is all that is the matter with me. The
doctor asked me where I came from, and I said 'Harrogate', so he
said he would try and get me there as soon as my leg was strong
enough. He told me he though it would make a good leg again. The
letters get held up for about a week, so don't get alarmed when you
don't hear from me. I am in the pink myself".
