Claro Times - 31st December 1915
Although there was no confirmation yesterday in
regard to the number of Harrogate soldiers stated to have been
gassed on Christmas Eve, it transpired that Private G M Cartmel,
of the 5th West Yorkshire Regiment, whose home was at Valley Drive,
was killed on Friday last. Prior to the outbreak of the war the
deceased soldier was employed by Messrs England and Robinson,
ironmongers, Parliament Street, and at one time assisted the local
Rugby football team.
