Two "old boys" of Pannal Ash College were among the
recipients of military honours presented by Prince Arthur of
Connaught at Leeds the other day, viz., Lieutenant Hugh
Chippindale, of the Royal Air Force, who received the Military
Cross, and is the third son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Chippindale,
of The Avenue, Scholes, Leeds. The award was made for
"conspicuous bravery in the field and for a series of daring
exploits, among which was the shooting down of enemy air-planes and
flying through the storm of shell fire". Another son of Mr
Chippindale – Lieutenant Donald Chippindale – has
also won the MC.
