LCpl Arnold E Day, 1/5th West Yorks, of
Wheatlands, Harrogate.
Harrogate Herald - 21st July 1915
No fewer than four Harrogate lads have fallen in
action this week : Lance Corporal Arnold [Ellis] Day; Lance Corporal
Kelley [Probably Fred Kelly], 5th West Yorks; Private W A Haley, 5th
West Yorks; Private J [John] Brown, 1/5th West Yorks. Their
portraits appear on our picture page.
Claro Times - 23rd July 1915
In our last issue we were in the happy position of
stating that no further news of casualties among Harrogate men had
reached us, but within a few hours of publication arrived the
information that Lance Corporal Fred Kelley and Lance Corporal A E
Day, both of the 5th West Yorkshires, had died as a result of wounds
received in action.
Lance Corporal Arnold E Day was the only son of
Mr
and Mrs E J Day, of Leeds Road, and previous to joining the 5th West
Yorks last September he was engaged on the literary staff of a
Bradford newspaper. He was the first Bradford journalist to enlist,
and had been in the Front several weeks when he received his fatal
wound in the head.
