Harrogate Herald - 26th December 1917
W H Breare letter
Second Lieutenant Oliver L R Dunley, 2nd
Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, is missing. He went out in the
company of two others to inspect some outposts, and the party has
not been heard of since. It is confidently believed that he had
wandered into the German lines, thinking them his own, and is a
prisoner. But there is no definite news, and friends are anxious.
Will you do your best to obtain information respecting him, and let
me know at the earliest moment? If you hear anything, and can send
me a brief cable and let me know the cost, I will at once remit. The
party included the Lieutenant, his Captain, and, I believe, a
Corporal. It is quite possible that one of you may obtain
information from a captured German prisoner. I do not make this
request in a more urgent form, because I know you and any of you do
all you can in this matter. The significant thing which warrants the
supposition of his being a prisoner is that no word has been heard
from any of them.

Don't trouble any more about Second Lieutenant Oliver Dunley,
2nd Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. You remember he was missing,
and I felt confident that he was a prisoner in Germany, but I wanted
to know for his friends' sake. I rejoice to say a telegram has come
from Switzerland saying he is a prisoner in Germany and well.
