Roll of Honour
A letter from a lieutenant of the Northumberland Fusiliers to Mrs
Eshelby, 41 South Beech Avenue, Starbeck, announced that her son
has died after being badly wounded whilst carrying wounded men from
the front trench. The officer says : He volunteered for the work,
which made him one of the best in the company. He was buried at the
village of ------, and a cross marks his grave. He is missed by all
the platoon and rest of the company. He was always cheerful under
adverse conditions. The sympathy of the regiment is sent to the
bereaved parents.
