Harrogate Herald - 3rd January 1917
Chats with the Wounded
Rifleman Forbes, of the Scottish Rifles, is in the Police
Convalescent Home suffering from rheumatism contracted on the West
front, where he was for about six months. They witnessed tanks come
into operation for the first time. There were three tanks which the
boys spoke of as "going over the top" which they did to
some tune. The lads in the trenches when first witnessing these land
dreadnoughts pushing their war forward were more intent on watching
these monsters than concerned with the Germans. However, they were
soon supplementing the attack by the tanks. Forbes has benefited
from the Harrogate treatment and is now going on nicely.
