Claro Times – 3rd September 1915
News has been received that CQMS Fowler, of
the West Yorkshire Regiment, has been killed in action in the
Dardanelles on August 9th . CQMS Fowler was a native of
Manchester, and 32 years of age. He served for eight years with the
colours, and was on the reserve. When war broke out he rejoined, and
sailed for the Dardanelles at the beginning of July. During the
period he was on the reserve he was engaged as a postman at
Harrogate, and a large circle of friends in the town will deeply
regret his death.
