Harrogate Herald - 10th April 1918
W H Breare letter
My next caller was AB George Foster, son of Mr Frank Foster, of
Starbeck. He joined the Navy in 1910 and left a big ship to go on a
destroyer. He finds the work on the latter a bit harder, but a deal
more exciting. He likes the life. Foster had on board ship with him
a mess-mate, a Ripon sailor, named Gregg, with whom he is
going back when his leave is up. He passes on the Herald to Gregg.
On his previous ship there were five Harrogate boys, so they never
lacked news from home. I was interested to learn that sailors got
their meat and sugar rations at home in the same quantities as on
board ship.
