Harrogate Herald - 6th June 1917
Roll of Honour
A fortnight ago we announced that Corporal John Hackney,
son of Mr & Mrs George Hackney, of Glasshouses, of the
West Yorks, was in hospital suffering from wounds. Two letters were
received from his companions saying he was going on very nicely, one
saying that he would be in England in a few days. A telegram was,
however, received on Monday saying Corporal Hackney had died
in the Canadian General Hospital at Etaples in France on the 26th. Corporal
Hackney is married, with one child. He was 36 years of age and
one of the oldest Volunteers and belonged to the West Yorks
Territorials. Mr & Mrs Hackney also have a son and an
adopted son in the Army, and both are in Salonica. Much sympathy is
felt for the bereaved mother.
