Harrogate Herald - 6th June 1917
Roll of Honour
Private Bernard Hall (Royal Canadian Regiment), son of
George H Hall, 11 Poplar Grove, Bilton, was killed in action on the
9th April. The Church of England Chaplain, in a letter to the widow,
says that first of all he was reported wounded on the above date,
and subsequently that he was killed, and his body was recovered for
burial. The clergyman explains that in such a big battle as that of
the 9th it was possible for the first report to be incorrect, but
was afraid there could be no error as to the last, as each man
carried two identification discs, one of which was taken off and the
other left on the body. Private Hall went to Canada about
five years ago, where he enlisted, and came over five weeks before
Christmas, and went to France about this time.
