Harrogate Herald - 31st January 1917
Driver W H Hall says :
I saw in last week's Herald that an old workmate of
mine had been killed in action. It was Arthur Johnson, and my
deepest sympathy is with his wife and children in their sad
bereavement. He was a good mate, and those who knew him always spoke
of him as a good friend. I saw one Harrogate lad today. It was Fred
Tilford, of the Royal Engineers. He was in good health and looked
well. I will ring off, again thanking you and wishing yourself and
the Herald every success.
Harrogate Herald - 5th September 1917
W H Hall writes from South Bank Road Hospital,
Southport, and says :
Am sending you a few lines to let you know I
received braces quiet safe, and I thank you very much for taking the
trouble to get them to me. Also kindly excuse me not writing sooner,
as my hands and eyes are against writing even now.
