Harrogate Herald - 3rd March 1915
Sapper H Hallet, of the Royal Engineers, says
:
Dear Sir, I now take the pleasure in writing and
thanking you very much for your welcome parcel and paper. I receive
the Harrogate Herald each week. I am very sorry I have not had time
to write before, as we are so busy out here. I think it is so kind
of you to think about us Harrogate boys. It seems so nice and
interesting to read about the old town, as it seems so long since I
was at home. I was sent from South Africa out here without leave, so
you see I shall be glad to get back again. I met a Harrogate chap in
a hospital out here. He did tell me his name, but I did not know
him. Well, sir, I was glad to read about all the Harrogate chaps out
here doing their bit. We are having better weather at present. We
had it very rough at one time. The trenches are still half full of
water. You must excuse this short letter as I am in a hurry.
Yours truly,
H Hallett
