Harrogate Herald - 12th December 1917
Roll of Honour
Lance Corporal W Harrison (West Yorks), writing from
County of London War Hospital, Epsom, Surrey, says :
"Having had a Herald sent me, it is the first time for many
months I have come in real touch with my native town. I was grieved
to see the many casualties, several being some of my old
acquaintances. I am sure the town is paying its full share towards
our future peace and security. Perhaps it would interest a few to
hear of my progress. I was wounded in both legs last Easter Monday
at Arras at the very beginning of the big push. I had nine weeks at
the base hospital in France, undergoing three operations and one on
arriving here in June. I am going on splendidly, although only just
able to walk a little now. Many months of electric treatment will be
required before any marked improvement can be expected. This is one
of the largest hospitals in the country, accommodating about 3,000
patients, with quite seven miles of corridors, and a concert room to
seat 2,000, situated in pleasant countryside.
