Corporal Hempsey

Corporal Hempsey, who lost his father in the war and whose mother died when he was quite a youngster, is making his home with Mr & Mrs A Eaves, 8 Skipton Street, Harrogate. He had a lucky escape before he was wounded, his helmet on one occasion being split into ten pieces with a bullet. He had another remarkable escape when he was wounded on the Somme, a German bullet burying itself in he field dressing he was carrying and injuring his side, and he also received shots in the back and the hand. He was for some time in the Edmonton Military Hospital, VAD, but has now recovered and returned to duty. He is a bombing instructor.
