Second Lieutenant Robert Brian Holmes, KRRC, who died of
wounds on July 1st, was the sixth and youngest son of the late Alfred
Holmes, of Udimore, Sussex, and Mrs Holmes, of Ashfield,
Bingley, Yorkshire. He was educated at Oatlands, Harrogate, and
Haileybury College. On the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Public
Schools Battalion and later obtained a commission in the King's
Royal Rifle Corps, and was sent to the front in October 1915. He was
slightly wounded by a bomb in the early spring, but soon afterwards
rejoined his Battalion.
