Claro Times - 30th January 1915
The marriage took place at St Peter's Church,
Harrogate, on Thursday noon, of Lieutenant Samuel Hartley-Holmes,
son of the late Mr Charles Holmes, of Claro Villas, Harrogate, to
Miss Gladys Sheard England, second daughter of Mr and Mrs W W
England, of Glenville, Harrogate.
Lieutenant Holmes, Naval Reserve, has just returned
from duty at Scarpa Flow base, and owing to the war the wedding was
a quiet one, there being no bridesmaids. The ceremony was performed
by the Rev Joseph England (uncle of the bride), Vicar of Ringlands,
Norwich, assisted by the Rev A S L Broad, senior curate of St
Peter's, Harrogate.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was
prettily attired. The best man was Mr Frank Chapel, cousin of the
bride.
