Harrogate Herald - 31st January 1917
Driver W Cue and W Hoxall says :
It gives me very great pleasure indeed in writing
these few lines in acknowledgement of the receipt of the Herald,
which I have received very regularly . I am sorry I have been unable
to write and thank you before now, but we have not too much time for
letter writing out here. I am writing on behalf of my self and
another Harrogate boy who is out here with me, and very pleased we
have been to read all the news from he old town and also the various
letters which you publish week by week from other old Harrogate
lads. We have read several from our friends at Salonica who came out
from England with us, but unfortunately have been separated from us.
We are pleased to read through your valuable paper that they are
going on all right. We notice in the columns of your paper where
several of the Harrogate lads had written to ask you to send them
various articles of use to them on active service, and I venture to
ask you, on behalf of myself and pal if you could send us a wristlet
watch, as we are badly in need of one, having had the misfortune to
break the one we had, so if it is not asking too much we should be
very pleased to receive one. Now I am very pleased to say we are
having some splendid weather at present. Christmas day was
remarkably fine and just like our English midsummer's day, and was
equally as warm, but we had rather a quiet time, and I expect that
Christmas would only be very quiet with you in the old country.
Wishing you and your valuable paper every success for the new year.
