Harrogate Herald - 18th July 1917
Private Charles E Hutchinson, East Yorks, youngest son of Mr
and Mrs Thomas Hutchinson, 42 Silverfields Road, Harrogate, who
was reported missing as far back as April 23rd, has written home to
say that he is a prisoner in Germany. The letter, which came on
Saturday, was a great relief to his anxious parents, who ad made
every possible enquiry with no result. A comrade, "Teddy"
Howell, who joined up with him, informed the parents that he was
missing, and a letter from his CO brought nothing more definite. Private
Hutchinson was in training at Harrogate with the Yorkshire
Hussars, but later he was transferred to the East Yorks Infantry. In
the letter home he says he is fit and well and sends kind regards to
all his friends. His brother, Private W Hutchinson, has been
out in Mesopotamia since November, 1915, with the Royal Engineers,
and at last accounts was in a rest camp at Baghdad.
