Harrogate Herald – 8th December 1915
On our picture page we reproduce the portrait of Private W
Ibbotson, of the 9th West Yorkshire Regiment, whom resided at 13
Belford Square, Tower Street, Harrogate, and whose death is reported
at the Dardanelles. The circumstances are lamentably sad, for on
Thursday morning his wife received a letter from her husband dated
October 12th, stating he was in good health, and on Friday morning
the War Office message arrived to say that he had died on board the
ship Lanfrane from pneumonia on the 25th November. Mrs Ibbotson
is left with four young children, the oldest being only six years of
age. Private Ibbotson, before enlisting a year ago last
October, was employed by Mr W Burkinshaw, builder, etc., of
Harrogate.
