Mr & Mrs W Jenkinson, 151 Cold Bath Road, Harrogate, have received notification from the War Office that another of their sons, Sergeant F Jenkinson (West Yorks), died on the 7th March from wounds received in action. The King and Queen and the Army Council express their sympathy and regret with the bereaved. Sergeant Jenkinson was serving his seventh year In the Army, having enlisted in September, 1910. He was stationed at Colchester some time and took in the King's coronation ceremony. He was two years at Malta as garrison policeman, and went to France in September, 1914. With the exception of being buried by explosion he had escaped injury during his 2 1/2 years' service at the Front, until he received his fatal wound. The Rev C Parker, the Church of England chaplain, who buried him, in a letter to the bereaved parents says : "May God help you to bear this great grief and comfort you. Mere words are useless and unreal. Comfort can only come from above. You have my truest sympathy, as have all the brave women of England who at this time are called upon to sacrifice so much. You must try and be brave, for now he is reaping his reward. He was quite unconscious of all his sufferings, and had a very peaceful end". Sergeant Jenkinson, who was a man of fine physique, standing over 6ft in height, had a brother, Private Joseph Jenkinson, killed in action on the 15th September last.
