Harrogate Herald – 9th May 1917
Gunner J Jenkinson writes :
I hope you will forgive me for not writing you for
so long. Now that I am out of the trenches having a rest, so have
found myself with nothing to do but write, sleep and eat. First of
all, I must thank you for sending me the paper so regularly. I look
forward to its coming. I had a very pleasant meeting with a chum of
mine called Horace Auton, from Harrogate. I was surprised to see him
out here, not knowing but that he had joined the West Yorks. He is a
driver in the RFA, and when I saw him he was fetching grain.
