Private Tom Johnson

 
 

Harrogate Herald - 14th April 1915

Private George H Johnson, aged 31, of B Company, 2nd West Yorkshire Regiment, whose photo appears in another part of this issue, was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle on March 10th. He is a brother of Mrs Donaldson, of Hookstone Road, Oatlands Mount, Harrogate. He had been about ten years in the Army, and was formerly in the 1st West Yorks. He served about five years in India, and was in the Indian frontier engagement in 1908, for which he received a medal. He joined the 2nd West Yorkshire Regiment about two years since to go to Malta, where he was stationed till September last, when they came back to Southampton to proceed to the Front.

Private Tom Johnson, his brother, is in the 1st West Yorkshire Regiment. He was in the Army Reserve, after seven years' service, four of which were spent in India. He was taken prisoner on the 20th September.
