In ever loving memory of Lance Corporal Walter
Makin, DCM, 1/7th West Yorks Regiment (Leeds Rifles), second son
of Mr and Mrs J Makin, Elmwood Street, who was killed in
action July 16th, 1916.
"Only a British soldier,
Only a dear mother's pride,
He answered the call of honour,
Doing his duty, he died.
He has served his King and country,
We know he has done his best;
No he sleeps in the arms of Jesus,
A British soldier at rest".
From his sorrowing Father, Mother, Sisters and two
soldier Brothers.
